First graders are busy engineering with Legos. In this lesson they constructed tops and a machine to spin them. Then they experimented designing different tops with the goal of creating a top that spun on its balancing point the longest. Cooperative learning was in full swing.
On October 19th, the Kenosha Fire Department visited with their amazing Fire Safety House. This annual visit is something that Curtis Strange Students look forward to every year. Whether it’s getting to watch the Fire Safe Kids movie in the kitchen’s stadium seating, acting out being a Fire Safe Kid in the mock bedroom complete with fake smoke and a heated door, or just mingling with the incredible Fire Department staff, it’s a fabulous experience every year.
First graders were lucky to receive an apple donation from “Farmer Bob” and pie ingredients from Mr. Herlihy. Each student participated in baking a pie from scratch. They made their own crust, spun their own apples, and added the sugar. After filling the school with the most wonderful aroma of apple pies baking, they dug in. What a tasty experience!
For Computer Science Education Week students participated in The Hour of Code completing TYnKeR Puppy Adventure.
We engineered Lego rafts and experimented with different sized sails to find out which design reached the end of the tank the quickest.
